We are very pleased to be able to bring you this amazing satchel. Our Samarkand satchel evokes the type of trusted and constant companion that travelers along the ancient Silk Road would have carried, slung at their side mile after mile, journeying into new lands. Named after one of the power centers of the ancient world, Samarkand sat midway between east and west along the timeless trade routes, and brought journeyers from across the world through it's gates. Completely hand stitched by master craftsmen, the quality of this satchel has to be seen to be believed.
Craftsmanship of this degree is a dying art, and we are fortunate to have a partner and friend who has a small cadre of craftsmen that have been working for his family business for decades making some of the worlds finest hand stitched horse saddles and tack. We are working in partnership taking those skills in a new direction, to create satchels of exceptional quality, and affordability, to a generation accustomed to mass produced nylon cookie cutter quality, but yearn for reality. An actual individual sat down, cut the pattern out of a hide, and hand stitched this satchel for you. For those who appreciate Old World master work, I do believe they'll find no finer satchel.
The leather is created by a small tannery for us, using traditional tannic bark vegetable tanning, this heavy duty, high quality satchel is made entirely of sturdy water buffalo hide. Averaging 3mm thick and very durable, the leather has been specifically tanned to achieve a distressed finish that shows wear and mileage phenomenally. It will soon look like it's been at your side forever. And it most likely will. Heavy duty brass hardware complements the leather, and stout nylon threads keep it together. It's an instant heirloom.
